But to solve simple problems of a toilet, you need not to call a plumber. You can solve the problems yourself just by having basic knowledge of toilet working.
Normally toilets need a tank, a bowl, a handle, a trip lever, ball-cock, a stopper and flush-valve assembly for its basic working. Problem in any of the component can cause improper working of toilet flush or other problems in toilet.
The main handle of toilet flush is attached to a trip lever, when you apply the force on handle in downward direction a chain or vertical rod is raised connected to the stopper. As the stopper rises, water flows from flush valves and goes into toilet bowl from the flush holes.
The flow of water is supported by gravitational force. Due to this force, water flows into the toilet bowl and then to drainpipe. In traditional flush systems, all of the tank water is used in a single flush and causes the stopper to go back at flush valve seat. Now the float ball also sets down at the bottom and prompts refilling of fresh water in the tank.
When water comes to the toilet, water level rises. With the rise in the water level, float ball also rises. Once the float ball reaches a certain height it turns off the flow of water to the bowl. In case of some problem, the water may not stop from running. This water is then redirected from the tank to the overflow tube and then into the toilet bowl. Such toilets are referred as a running toilet.
Leakage in toilet is a general issue. To solve this problem you first need to find out the actual cause of leakage. Normally the reason could be rise of float arm to an inappropriate height. For this you need to bend the float arm in downward direction.
One more cause of a leaking toilet could be improper placement of stopper on flush valve seat. Properly clean the stopper or try to fix the flush valve seat properly to come out of this problem.
Generally some problems in toilet could also come because of broken overflow tube or any fault in ball-cock valves. To come out of the problems caused due to this, you can either change the faulty parts or repair them. Most of the times its recommended to change the whole setup instead of changing all the damaged parts individually as changing whole setup could cost you less.
